Trish DeBerry


As president, Trish DeBerry oversees and manages every aspect of the agency. A passionate community advocate, Trish has helped guide initiatives to reform education, improve transportation and boost quality of life for South Texas residents. Trish has a hands-on work ethic, getting down in the trenches for our clients to create aggressive campaigns that influence public perception and get results regardless of the client’s industry or market. Her experience in politics, land and property development, retail, television, communications and public relations helps her identify the client’s needs and direct overall account strategy.

After a decade as a reporter, anchor and producer at KENS-TV (San Antonio’s CBS affiliate), she launched her career in public relations as a founding partner of Guerra DeBerry Coody, a successful public relations and marketing agency, and in 2012 started her own firm. Trish has been an instrumental leader in cultivating long-standing client relationships with H-E-B Grocery Company, Vanguard Health Systems, Spurs Sports and Entertainment, San Antonio Water System and Brooks. She was a key force in extending the city’s visitor tax to fund $415 million in improvements to the AT&T Center, extend the San Antonio River by 14 miles and build youth sporting facilities throughout the city.

Negotiating clients through complicated community issues is Trish’s forte. She’s been at the helm of projects including the Go Public campaign to drive support for Bexar County ISDs, Bexar County Flood Control, bond packages for SAISD and NEISD, and critical projects that were part of the historic $850 million San Antonio bond, overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2017. One of her proudest accomplishments has been her work for David’s Legacy Foundation including the swift passage of David’s Law, anti-cyber bullying legislation in Texas.

Trish is a founding board member of the South Texas Hispanic Fund and commits her time on boards for the Alamo Heights Foundation, David's Legacy Foundation, San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame, United Way and serves as the Chair of the Board for Centro Partnership.

Trish’s recognitions and accomplishments throughout her career are numerous, including the NEISD Outstanding Alumni Award, National Association of Women Business Owners Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, and most recently the 2017 San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame Award and 2017 San Antonio Women’s Chamber of Commerce Comet Award.

She has two children, Maddie and Scott.

Anamaria Suescun-Fast

Vice President/COO

As the Executive Vice President/COO of The DeBerry Group, Anamaria Suescun-Fast carefully balances a dual role at the agency: Part of her role is in in managing the agency, and the other part is in her client work. Anamaria thrives in the fast-paced, challenging agency environment and considers her clients some of the best around.

Anamaria seamlessly combines public affairs and marketing expertise, making her clients’ messages or products resonate with stakeholders, consumers, investors, interest groups, policy makers and voters. Having worked in public relations and marketing for more than 20 years, she’s grateful for the amazing mentors she’s had throughout her career. With a marketing degree from St. Mary’s University, Anamaria provides her expertise and oversight to such clients as Mission Pharmacal/Dr. Smith's, San Antonio Water System, and San Pedro Creek Improvement Project.

As an animal lover, she’s a supporter of San Antonio Pets Alive and other dog rescue organizations. Anamaria also supports the San Antonio Area Foundation Women & Girls Development Fund.

Laurin Shambora

Chief Financial Officer

Having been born on April 15 (Tax Day), Laurin Shambora was destined to be a Certified Public Accountant. Laurin is one of the original members of The DeBerry Group and helps ensure that our operations run smoothly and efficiently. Laurin earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. After graduating Laurin worked in public accounting gaining industry experience by working on several agency clients and then went on to work on the agency side with Trish and Anamaria.

Kristine Smith

Integrated Marketing Director

Kristine Smith believes that data writes rich narratives when we stop to listen, that the status quo is the enemy, and that in marketing, risk-taking is fundamental to succeeding. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, her background reads like a marketer’s checklist, including event marketing, print, advertising, eCommerce, strategic planning, digital, app development, social media, and content creation.

From Argo Group to Airrosti, Blockbuster to The Broadway, Toshiba to Toaster Strudel, Kristine has helped scores of brands articulate and reach their marketing goals. Prior to joining The DeBerry Group, Kristine managed strategic content development for USAA employees in her role for Pace Communications.

As digital strategist for Bromley Communications, she crafted the social strategy across all channels for Toaster Strudel, including the introduction of a new target – extremely non-traditional and highly viral. At Matthews|Evans|Albertazzi in San Diego, she was at the forefront of the rise of digital, counseling clients like the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and Leap Wireless on this emerging medium.

Laura Hotten

Creative & Digital Director

Laura Hotten is a rare find in the creative industry. A trained and experienced graphic designer and creative strategist, Laura is also a savvy web designer and programmer with a talent for developing digital campaigns that drive traffic and increase brand engagement. She has spent the last 20 years leading retail marketing campaigns for major brands in the United States and Latin America, seizing opportunities for her clients in the ever-expanding world of digital marketing.

Her work has spanned from broadcast to corporate identity to interface design, always seeking a balance between form and function. She has led teams in designing corporate websites, custom web applications, e-commerce, online training/education, and multimedia development for clients such as Dell, Seton Healthcare Network, Best Buy, and Silicon Laboratories. Add to this Laura’s role as adjunct professor for the Visual Communication department at Austin Community College and as Senior Art Director for Bromley Communications, and you have yourself someone with the multifaceted background and know-how needed to lead a strong design team.

Laura received her Bachelor of Science in Communications – Advertising from The University of Texas in 1997.

Rachel Trevino

Social Media Manager

In the ever-changing world of social media, Rachel Trevino has the expertise to stay ahead of the game. Her award-winning campaigns and strategies are the product of not just ingenuity, but a deep understanding of the platform, enabling her to bring a smart, fresh perspective to every project she touches. As an early adapter to social media, Rachel has developed a keen sense of how to use social and digital tactics to enhance traditional public relations efforts and break through the noise to reach digital audiences in an authentic way.

Rachel specializes in developing unique social media content and marketing and advertising strategies that elevate each client’s digital presence, and helps them achieve their goals. Her social media experience also includes brand development, content management, target audience identification, promotion and engagement strategies, conversion tactics, community management, editorial calendar planning, and measurement and analysis of key performance indicators to establish return on investment.

Rachel has spearheaded social media and digital efforts for many DeBerry Group clients, including the Corner Store Country Run, an international charitable 5K run held in 10 cities throughout the United States and Canada.

Lauren Medellin

Social Media Account Executive

Whether it’s developing and implementing social marketing plans or day-to-day social management, Lauren Medellin’s passion lies in defining a brand's voice and vision within the social space. She strives to be forward-thinking and adaptable, as it’s required for success in the ever-changing digital and social landscape. After years living in New York City, Lauren thrives in a fast-paced environment and always brings energy and fresh ideas to the table.

Lauren received her Bachelor of Science in Advertising and Marketing Communications from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, later working in social marketing for Lord & Taylor under Hudson’s Bay Company.

Lindsey Campbell

Public Relations Manager

As our Public Relations Manager, Lindsey Campbell helps our clients with strategizing, planning, media relations and crisis communications. Whether it’s because of her history working with us since before she was an official member of the team or because of her quick wit and exceptional work, Lindsey was an instant fit at The DeBerry Group.

Lindsey graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in sport management and communications, later working in sports public relations at Syracuse University, the University of South Florida and the Kraft Sports Group (New England Patriots).

She moved to San Antonio to work for Spurs Sports & Entertainment in 2011 and was most recently the Public Relations Manager for SeaWorld San Antonio, helping open the first swim with the dolphins experience in Texas, and led the marketing effort for the park’s first roller coaster in more than 10 years.

Dan Castro

Senior Art Director

Whether he’s working on branding, logos, illustrations, campaigns, photography, animations or web you can count on Dan’s work to be creative, conceptual and enduring. His expansive expertise, including art direction, digital/online, print, pre-press, illustration, packaging, photography, animation, branding/logo design, and broadcast, has resulted in numerous industry distinctions and awards throughout his career, including the DeBerry Group’s first Gold Addy.

As a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a BFA in Graphic Design, and a 3 sport letterman in distance running, Dan knows what it takes to achieve success. Being the first Creative at the DeBerry Group, he has helped lay the strong foundation for our creative team.

Melessa C. Rodriguez

Digital Specialist

Melessa Rodriguez’s path to her current role has given her a unique perspective on communications and marketing in a digital age. From her strong roots in political organizing for candidates across the state of Texas to her years in public relations, she’s an adept communicator and marketer experienced at developing strategic plans from grassroots to mass market.

Her love for analytics, and using that information to build stronger connections with audiences guides her strong belief that data-informed approaches are integral to creating successful and thoughtful strategy. A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in communications studies, Melessa’s right-brain, left-brain duality make her an invaluable resource for clients embracing the continuously evolving digital landscape.

Melessa is deeply passionate and invested in playing an active role in developing our city into a leader of innovation. She puts her interests into action as a volunteer with the Junior League of San Antonio, member of the Pecha Kucha San Antonio planning committee, Young Achievers mentor, and as a newly selected member of Leadership San Antonio’s Class 43.

Denise Blaz

Account Executive

As our Integrated Accounts Coordinator, Denise Blaz helps to ensure alignment throughout client campaigns and further evolves with the changing demands of the industry. She’s an eagle-eyed taskmaster whose role is to bring support and consistency to client content among the changing demands for integrated elements. As a former journalist turned marketing professional, Denise has an expanded skill set and has experience writing, executing events, and helping to create a cohesive brand image.

Denise has worked for various media outlets within Texas, including News 4 San Antonio, the Abilene Reporter-News, and the Laredo Morning Times. Most recently, she handled communication and events for a local nonprofit named Alpha Home. She holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Mass Communication - Journalism from Texas State University.

Jesse Leyva

Graphic Designer

Jesse Leyva’s at his best when he’s creating branding and illustrations for clients: If a client needs a graphic, Jesse’s flair for design never fails to show in his work. As an Art Institute of San Antonio alumni, Jesse knew from the beginning what his calling would be. As he continues to grow with us at The DeBerry Group, he regularly exceeds ours and our clients’ expectations.

Brooke Blanton


Brooke Blanton has the sort of ingenuity and versatility in the world of content creation that doesn’t come around often. With her talents in copywriting, social media, video planning and editing, and web development, her contributions are both technical and creative.

Part of this expertise stems from her early experience managing social media accounts for hundreds of small businesses, helping her hone her skill set and work on marketing and social operations for larger companies like Brooks and H-E-B.

Brooke received her degree in English Writing and Rhetoric from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. When she’s not at work, Brooke spends her time writing, reading, traveling, or going to the movies. She’s a member of the San Antonio Public Library Foundation’s First Edition Society and LOOP San Antonio.

Thomas Marks

Governmental Affairs Specialist

If you need someone who understands the inner workings of government and political campaigns, Tom Marks is your guy. As a result of his experience managing, consulting and directing field operations for campaigns, Tom has become an integral part of The DeBerry Group’s successful political and community work.

With over a decade of experience, Tom has held roles as Chief of Staff, Senior Campaign Strategist and Manager and Government Affairs Liaison. Tom has a B.A. in political science and studied political communications and statistics in graduate school at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Melísa Cancino

Executive Assistant to the CEO/Office Manager

As the Director of Operations for DeBerry Group, there's nothing that Melísa Cancino can't do. Whether it's assisting President & CEO Trish DeBerry as her Executive Assistant, offering her services as Marketing Chair for non-profits such as American Sunrise, or ordering supplies for the office, Melísa does all that she can to keep everyone and everything in line.

With a background in public relations, marketing, event coordinating and administration, Melísa has done it all, from helping create and launch a line of cosmetics to directing the marketing efforts for a natural foods store. She truly enjoys everyone she works with at DeBerry Group and loves being able to help everyone work together.

With a husband and four kids, Melísa has her hands full at home, as well. When she's not practicing flamenco or playing the castanets with her daughters, Melísa loves to help friends and clients find their unique style as a personal shopper.
